Index Fungorum, Faceoffungi, MycoBank, GenBank, Fig 1.
Classification: Tubeufiaceae, Tubeufiales, Incertae sedis, Dothideomycetes, Pezizomycotina, Ascomycota, Fungi.
Etymology: “Pseudohelicosporium” refers to the morphology of this genus similar to the asexual morph of Helicosporium.
Saprobic on decaying wood in a terrestrial habitat. Sexual morph Undetermined. Asexual morph Hyphomycetous, helicosporous. Colonies on natural substrate superficial, effuse, gregarious, with masses of crowded, glistening conidia, green. Mycelium partly immersed, partly superficial, composed of hyaline to pale brown, branched, septate, guttulate, smooth hyphae. Conidiophores macronematous, mononematous, arising from creeping hyphae, erect, irregular cylindrical, short, flexuous, branched or unbranched, aseptate, hyaline to pale brown, smooth-walled. Conidiogenous cells holoblastic, monoblastic or polyblastic, integrated, sympodial, terminal, irregular cylindrical or ampulliform, with tiny tooth-like protrusions, truncate at apex after conidial secession, hyaline, smooth-walled. Conidia solitary, acrogenous, helicoid, tapering towards the rounded ends, developing on tooth-like protrusion, becoming loosely coiled in water, multi-septate, slightly constricted at septa, guttulate, hyaline, smooth-walled.
Notes: The conidia of Pseudohelicosporium are similar to those of Helicosporium but phylogenetically distinct within Tubeufiaceae (Fig. 4; Ma J et al. 2024). Pseudohelicosporium irregulare and Ps. laxisporum have different conidiophore morphologies. Herein, we introduce a new genus, Pseudohelicosporium, to accommodate Ps. irregulare and Ps. laxisporum based on their molecular data and conidial morphology.
Type species: Pseudohelicosporium irregulare J. Ma, K.D. Hyde & Y.Z. Lu, sp. nov.
Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Pseudohelicosporium.
