Platytrachelon Réblová was introduced by Réblová et al. (2013) to accommodate Platytrachelon abietis (Réblová) Réblová which was originally introduced as Ceratosphaeria abietis Réblová in Ceratosphaeriaceae, Magnaporthales (Réblová 1998). Réblová et al. (2013) re-examined the holotype of this species and provided a detailed description and illustration for this species which include both sexual and asexual morphs. In the multigene phylogenetic analysis of the previous study, Ceratosphaeria abietis formed a sister clade with Papulosaceae. Due to the morphological differences, Réblová et al. (2013) placed Platytrachelon abietis in Sordariomycetes incertae sedis. Wijayawardene et al. (2018) placed it under Papulosaceae, while Hyde et al. (2020a) treated it in Diaporthomycetidae incertae sedis. Our phylogenetic analysis falls with the treatment of Hyde et al. (2020a), and the result showed that Platytrachelon abietis clustered with Proliferophorum thailandicum with low support within Diaporthomycetidae. We follow Hyde et al. (2020a) and placed this genus in Diaporthomycetidae incertae sedis. However, our divergence time estimates showed that Proliferophorum thailandicum diverged approximately 76 MYA, which satisfied with the range of a family (50–130 MYA), therefore, may consider raising to family level. However, more collections and phylogenetic analyses are necessary to clarify the phylogenetic placement of this genus.
Type species: Platytrachelon abietis (Réblová) Réblová, Mycologia 105(2): 467 (2013).
Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Platytrachelon.
