Barr (1979) introduced Phaeosphaeriaceae which comprises 83 genera (Phookamsak et al. 2014, 2017, 2019, Wijayawardene et al. 2014, 2017, 2018, Hyde et al. 2016, Yang et al. 2019, Bakhshi et al. 2019, Maharachchikumbura et al. 2019, Marin-Felix et al. 2019, Hongsanan et al. 2020). Species in this family are often necrotrophic pathogens or saprobes on plants (Shoemaker & Babcock 1992, Carson 2005, Stukenbrock et al. 2006, Cannon & Kirk 2007, Tibpromma et al. 2017).
