Classification: Ascomycota genera incertae sedis, Fungi.
Patriciomyces was introduced by Hawksworth (2001) to describe the lichenicolous species P. valentinianus, which grows on the thallus of Physcia stellaris. The genus is characterized by superficial, compact, pale orange sporodochia, measuring 0.4–0.6 mm in width and 0.2–0.4 mm in height. The conidiophores are macronematous, hyaline, and branched. The conidiogenous cells are terminal or lateral, holoblastic, subulate, and range from 30–55 μm in height. The conidia are hyaline, 1-septate, biconical, and measure 18–20 μm in length (Cole et al. 2001). Due to the lack of molecular data, Patriciomyces is tentatively placed within Ascomycota genera incertae sedis, with its phylogenetic status requiring further study (Hyde et al. 2024).
Type species: Patriciomyces valentinianus D. Hawksw.
Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Patriciomyces.
