Index Fungorum, Faceoffungi, MycoBank, GenBank.

Classification: Teichosporaceae, Pleosporales, Pleosporomycetidae, Dothideomycetes, Pezizomycotina, Ascomycota, Fungi.

Saprobic on palm petioles and leaves. Sexual morph Ascomata immersed to erumpent, visible as small black dots on the substrates, solitary to gregarious; in section subglobose to ampulliform. Peridium composed of cells of textura angularis. Hamathecium pseudoparaphyses, septate, branched and anastomosing, embedded in a gelatinous matrix. Asci 8-spored, bitunicate, clavate to cylindric-clavate, with a short pedicel, apically rounded with an ocular chamber. Ascospores usually uniseriate, obovoid-ellipsoidal, 1-septate, hyaline, smooth and thick-walled, surrounded by thin gelatinous sheath. Asexual morph Coelomycetous (Crous et al. 2021). Conidiomata pycnidial, solitary to aggregated, brown, globose, ostiolate. Conidiomatal wall with cells of textura angularis. Conidiophores reduced to conidiogenous cells, hyaline, ampulliform, proliferating percurrently at the apex. Conidia solitary, ellipsoid, apex subobtuse, tapering to truncate hilum, hyaline, becoming brown with age, smooth, guttulate.

Notes: Parateichospora was introduced by Crous et al. (2021) based on multi-gene phylogeny. It is represented by a coelomycetous asexual morph collected from a Phoenix palm. In the present study, the sexual morph of Parateichospora is illustrated and the description of this genus is emended. The two Parateichospora species have so far only been found from palms.

Type species: Parateichospora phoenicicola Crous.

Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Parateichospora.
