Crous et al. (2012b) introduced this penidiellla-like hyphomycetous genus. Phylogenetically, Parapenidiella resides in Teratosphaeriaceae but is distinct from Penidiella sensu stricto (Quaedvlieg et al. 2014). See description and illustration in Crous et al. (1998), Crous et al. (2012b), and Quaedvlieg et al. (2014).

Type species: Parapenidiella tasmaniensis (Crous & M.J. Wingf.) Crous, Persoonia 29: 185 (2012).
