Index Fungorum, Facesoffungi, MycoBank, GenBank.

Classification Bionectriaceae, Hypocreales, Hypocreomycetidae, Sordariomycetes, Pezizomycotina, Ascomycota, Fungi.

Associated with leaves and twigs of Aloe sp. or saprobic on dead leaves of Pandanus. Mycelium consisting of hyaline, smooth, branched, septate hyphae. Sexual morph: Ascomata up to 370 µm diam., visible on the host surface, solitary, scattered to gregarious, globose to subglobose, unilocular, with a flat base, superficial, easy to remove, orange, surface covered with hyaline or pale brown papilla, ostiole central. Peridium composed of several layers of thick-walled cells forming textura angularis or textura prismatica. Paraphyses ellipsoid and cellular, or cylindrical and filamentous, unbranched, septate, guttulate. Asci 8-spored, unitunicate, cylindrical-clavate, apical ring J-. Ascospores fusiform, conical at both ends, 3–5 or 6-septate, not constricted at septa, hyaline to subhyaline, guttulate, without mucoid sheath, smooth-walled. Asexual morph: Hyphomycetous. Conidiophores solitary or sporodochial, originating from superficial hyphae, erect, straight to geniculate-sinuous, septate, unbranched or branched, hyaline, smooth-walled. Conidiogenous cells phialidic, terminal or lateral on conidiophores, subcylindrical with slight apical taper, straight to slightly curved, with a minute periclinal thickening, hyaline, smooth-walled. Conidia granular, cylindrical or filiform, (0–)2–3-septate, sometimes slightly constricted at septa, guttulate, hyaline, smooth-walled, without appendages or mucilaginous sheath (adapted from Crous et al. 2016b; Tibpromma et al. 2018).

Known distribution: China, Hong Kong (Tibpromma et al. 2018), South Africa (Crous et al. 2016b).

Notes: Paracylindrocarpon was established by Crous et al. (2016b) based on Paracylindrocarpon aloicola (Crous et al. 2016b). Later another three species including sexual morphs were added to the genus by Tibpromma et al. (2018). Paracylindrocarpon species are saprobic on dead leaves of Pandanus, while P. aloicola was on leaves and twigs of Aloe (Crous et al. 2016b; Tibpromma et al. 2018). Ex-type sequence data are available for all the species of this genus.

Type species: Paracylindrocarpon aloicola Crous, Roets & L. Lombard, in Crous et al., Persoonia 36: 367 (2016).

Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Paracylindrocarpon.
