Notes: Palaeocirrenalia was established by Ramanujam and Srisailam (1980) based on their conidial morphologies, which are helicoid and multicellular, with thick and dark bands at the septa, and comprising cells of unequal sizes, with the terminal cell being dome-shaped and broader, and the basal cells being cuneate, consisting of surface psilate. Palaeocirrenalia was introduced to accommodate two saprobic hyphomycete taxa: P. elegans as the type species and P. oligoseptata, both of which were found on submerged decaying wood in a marine habitat in India (Ramanujam and Srisailam 1980; Saxena et al. 2021). Additionally, it should be noted that Palaeocirrenalia exhibits remarkable similarity with the conidia of Cirrenalia species (Ramanujam and Srisailam 1980; Zhao et al. 2007).
Type species: Palaeocirrenalia elegans Ramanujam & Srisailam, Botanique (Nagpur) 9: 125 + pl. 1, figs 13-14; pl. 2, fig. 15 (1980).
Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Palaeocirrenalia.
