Classification: Ascomycota genera incertae sedis, Fungi.
Nigromacula was introduced by Etayo (2002b) to describe the type species N. hypotrachynae, which grows on the foliose lichen Hypotrachyna. The genus is characterized by black, superficial, plano-convex sporodochia, with monoblastic, integrated, terminal, ellipsoidal conidiogenous cells. The conidia are acrogenic, ellipsoidal to subcylindrical, ornamented, striate, and uniseptate (Etayo 2002b). Hawksworth (2003) transferred N. uniseptata from Vouauxiella uniseptata D. Hawksw., a species found on Parmelia laevigata. The genus includes two recognized lichenicolous species. Due to the lack of molecular data, Nigromacula is tentatively placed within Ascomycota genera incertae sedis (Hyde et al. 2024).
Type species: Nigromacula hypotrachynae Etayo.
Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Nigromacula.
