Classification: Neoleptosporellaceae, Chaetosphaeriales, Sordariomycetidae, Sordariomycetes, Pezizomycotina, Ascomycota, Fungi.

Neoleptosporella, typified with N. clematidis, was introduced and placed in Chaetosphaeriales genera incertae sedis based on morphological and phylogenetic analysis (Phukhamsakda et al. 2020). A second species N. camporesiana was subsequently accommodated in this genus by Hyde et al. (2020b). Neoleptosporella is normally characterized by having immersed, subglobose to depressed globose ascomata that lie beneath a small clypeus, with the peridium of dark brown to black cells of textura angularis, hyaline, branched, septate paraphyses, and unitunicate, pedicellate, broadly cylindrical asci and fasciculate, non-septate, guttulate, fusiform to filiform ascospores, without any appendages (Hyde et al. 2020b; Phukhamsakda et al. 2020). A new species N. fusiformispora is introduced and described on the basis of morpho-phylogenetic evidence.

Type species: Neoleptosporella fusiformispora J.F. Zhang, Y.Y. Chen & Jian K. Liu.

Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Neoleptosporella.
