Index Fungorum, Faceoffungi, MycoBank, GenBank, Fig 1.

Classification: Sydowiellaceae, Diaporthales, Diaporthomycetidae, Sordariomycetes, Pezizomycotina, Ascomycota, Fungi.

Saprobic on dead branch of unidentified woody plant. Sexual morph: Ascomata immersed to erumpent through the host surface, scattered, solitary or gregarious, depressed globose to subglobose, dark brown to black, coriaceous, ostiolate. Ostiole central, with a long neck that emerging through cracks in the substrate. Peridium composed of several layers of cells arranged in textura angularis. Hamathecium comprising sparse, septate, cellular paraphyses, intermixed with the asci. Asci unitunicate, cylindric-clavate, sessile, apex blunt, with a J- apical ring. Ascospores reniform, hyaline, overlapping uni-seriate to biseriate, tapering to the ends, two-celled, constricted at the septum, guttulate. Asexual morph: Undetermined.

Notes: Neodiaporthe is phylogenetically placed within Sydowiellaceae and is closely related to Breviappendix and Sydowiella (Zhang JF et al. 2023). Neodiaporthe resembles Breviappendix in having long-necked ascomata and sessile asci, but Breviappendix produces ellipsoid ascospores with setose appendages at both ends, and paraphyses was do not occur (Senanayake et al. 2017b). Neodiaporthe differs from Sydowiella in that the latter is characterized by short papillate ascomata, cylindrical, short pedicellate asci and oval to ellipsoid ascospores (Maharachchikumbura et al. 2016). Based on the phylogenetic analysis and morphological characteristics, Neodiaporthe is established as a new genus to accommodate the type species Neodiaporthe reniformispora.

Type species: Neodiaporthe reniformispora J.F. Zhang & K.D. Hyde.

Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Neodiaporthe.
