Fungalpedia – Note 3235, Neodeightonia
Neodeightonia C. Booth, Mycol. Pap. 119: 17 (1970) [1969].
Citation when using this data: Zhang SN et al. 2024 – Fungalpedia.
Index Fungorum, Faceoffungi, MycoBank, GenBank.
Classification: Botryosphaeriaceae, Botryosphaeriales, Dothideomycetidae, Dothideomycetes, Pezizomycotina, Ascomycota, Fungi.
Notes: Neodeightonia is represented by both asexual and sexual morphs (Punithalingam 1969; Phillips et al. 2008; Liu et al. 2010, 2012). However, this genus was reduced to synonymy under Botryosphaeria by Arx and Müller (1975) when they transferred the type of Neodeightonia to the latter. Phillips et al. (2008) reinstated the genus Neodeightonia based on phylogenetic analyses and distinguishable morphology (dark, 1-sepate ascospores) from Botryosphaeria. The conidial striation of Neodeightonia resembles Lasiodiplodia, yet it can be differentiated from Lasiodiplodia by the absence of paraphyses. Neodeightonia appears to be frequently reported on palm hosts, as half of the 14 species registered in Index Fungorum (2024) are found on palms. They are Neodeightonia arengae, N. chamaeropicola, N. palmicola, N. phoenicum, N. rattanica, N. rattanicola, and N. septata. Recent contributions to Neodeightonia with collections from palms are Wu et al. (2022); Pereira and Phillips (2023); Tian et al. (2024).
Type species: Neodeightonia subglobosa C. Booth.
Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Neodeightonia.
