Mycoleptodiscus. Ostaz.

Citation when using this data: Tennakoon DS et al. 2021 – Fungalpedia, Ascomycota.

Index Fungorum, Facesoffungi, MycoBank, GenBank, Fig 1

Classification: Magnaporthaceae, Magnaporthales, Sordariomycetidae, Sordariomycetes, Pezizomycotina, Ascomycota, Fungi

Notes: Mycoleptodiscus was proposed to accommodate M. terrestris which was previously known as Leptodiscus terrestris and M. sphaericus (Ostazeski 1967). Mycoleptodiscus species have superficial, sporodochial conidiomata, dark brown conidiogenous cells with a prominent circular aperture in the upper wall, hyaline conidia with cylindrical to fusiform shaped, and 0–2-septa, sometimes bearing an apical and/or basal cellular unbranched filiform appendage (Hyde et al. 2020b). Mycoleptodiscus species play vital roles as plant pathogens, animal opportunists, saprobes and endophytes (Thongkantha et al. 2009; Tibpromma et al. 2018; Hernandez-Restrepo et al. 2019; Hyde et al. 2020b). In this study we follow the recent treatment of Hernandez-Restrepo et al. (2019) for Mycoleptodiscus.

Type species: Mycoleptodiscus terrestris (Gerd.) Ostaz., Mycologia 59(6): 970 (1968) [1967].

Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Mycoleptodiscus.
