Notes – Monosporascus was introduced by Pollack & Uecker (1974) with type species
M. cannonballus to accommodate a fungus obtained from necrotic muskmelon roots. The genus is characterised by pyriform asci and the formation of one (rarely two) single large, sphaerical ascospores (Pollack & Uecker 1974).

Type species: Monosporascus cannonballus Pollack & Uecker, Mycologia 66(2): 348 (1974).
