Monoblastiales was established as a lichenized fungi group to accommodate Monoblastiaceae within class Dothideomycetes, based on morphological and phylogenetic analysis (Hyde et al. 2013). It is morphologically differentiated from two other lichenized orders Strigulales and Trypetheliales in the net-like physes, euseptate ascospores and macroconidia arranged in a gelatinous matrix (Aptroot et al. 2008; Hyde et al. 2013). Hyde et al. (2020b) introduced family Eriomycetaceae and placed it within Dothideomycetes families incerate sedis based on morphological and phylogenetic analysis, however, this family was synonymized under Monoblastiaceae by Hongsanan et al. (2020b). However, Wijayawardene et al. (2022a) listed Eriomycetaceae as a separate family with a single genus Eriomycetes without providing any reasons. In this study, the family Eriomycetaceae is formally resurrected and accommodated within Monoblastiales based on morphological characteristics and phylogenetic analysis.
Type family: Monoblastiaceae Walt. Watson.
Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Monoblastiales.
