Classification: Chaetothyriales genera incertae sedis, Pezizomycotina, Ascomycota, Fungi
Minutoexcipula was introduced by Atienza et al. (1994) to accommodate the deuteromycete species M. tuckerae, which grows on Pertusaria texana and is characterized by the formation of black, convex, sporodochia-like conidiomata with a well differentiated exciple. Its branched conidiophores bear proliferating holoblastic conidiogenous cells with distinct annellations, and the solitary conidia are brown and 1-septate. Subsequently, Hafellner (1994) described the second species M. tuerkii which grows on thallus of Pertusaria glomerata. Atienza (2002, 2009) added three new species. Etayo et al. (2008c), Lendemer et al. (2016), Zhurbenko et al. (2020a) separately introduced new species in this genus, and lead to total eight species. Diederich et al. (2024) introduced six new species based on morphological features. To date, 14 species are recognized in this genus, all of which are lichenicolous. Due to the lack of sequence data, its phylogenetic position remains unclear.
Type species: Minutoexcipula tuckerae V. Atienza & D. Hawksw.
Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Minutoexcipula.
