Index Fungorum, Faceoffungi, MycoBank, GenBank, Fig 1.
Classification: Ascomycota genera incertae sedis, Fungi.
Milospium was introduced by Hawksworth (1975b) to accommodate the lichenicolous hyphomycete M. graphideorum, which was transferred from Spilomium graphideorum Nyl., found on the thalli of Opegrapha species. The genus is characterized by dark brown to black colonies, micronematous to semi-macronematous conidiophores, and solitary, dry, acropleurogenous conidia that are irregularly subglobose to ellipsoid. Four species are recognized in this genus, three of which are lichenicolous. Although Milospium was originally placed in Dematiaceae by Hawksworth (1975b), its phylogenetic status remains uncertain due to a lack of molecular data. It is tentatively placed within Ascomycota genera incertae sedis, pending the availability of sequence data (Hyde et al. 2024).
Type species: Milospium graphideorum (Nyl.) D. Hawksw. (Hawksworth 1975b).
= Spilomium graphideorum Nyl. (Nylander 1857).
Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Milospium.
