Classification: Microthyriales, Incertae sedis, Dothideomycetes, Pezizomycotina, Ascomycota, Fungi
Epiphyllous or hypophyllous on leaves, appearing as black dots on host surface. Hyphae superficial, hyaline, indistinct. Sexual morph: Tyriothecia superficial, gregarious to solitary, blackened, orbicular, dimidiate, with a central ostiole. Upper wall greenish or bluish in water, brownish or reddish in KOH solution, membranous, comprising of compact or sparse netlike or puzzle-like, overlapping, pseudoparenchymatous hyphae, lack of basal plate. Hamathecium with or lacking pseudoparaphyses. Asci 8-spored, bitunicate, hyaline, cylindrical to clavate. Ascospores overlapping, 2-seriate, cylindrical to subclavate, aseptate or unito multi-septate, hyaline. Asexual morph: Undetermined.
Notes: Clements and Shear (1931a,b) introduced Micropeltidaceae with 29 genera and 186 species to accommodate in Microthyriales. Batista (1959) provided a monograph with keys to genera and species. Hongsanan and Hyde (2017) transfer Micropeltidaceae to Lecanoromycetes based on phylogeny (Hongsanan and Hyde 2017). Zeng et al. (2019) revised Micropeltidaceae and included eight genera (Dictyopeltella, Dictyothyriella, Dictyothyrina, Dictyothyrium, Haplopeltheca, Micropeltis, Scolecopeltidium and Stomiopeltopsis). Wijayawardene et al. (2022) included eight genera in Micropeltidaceae. However, we did not include Cyclopeltella, Neopeltella and Stomiotheca in this study due to the lack of bluishgreen upper wall. We follow Zeng et al. (2019).
Type genus: Micropeltis Mont., Annls Sci. Nat., Bot., se´r. 2 17: 122 (1842)
