Classification: Meliolales, Meliolomycetidae, Sordariomycetes, PezizomycotinaAscomycota, Fungi

Notes: Martin (1941) established Meliolaceae without a latin diagnosis and later Hansford (1946) validated. It was placed in different orders such as Dothideales, Erysiphales, Meliolales, Myriangiales and Hypocreales at various times (Martin 1941; Luttrell 1951, 1989; Roger 1953; Ainsworth et al. 1971; Müller and von Arx 1973; Yarwood 1973; Barr 1976a; Eriksson 1981). Meliolaceae species are characterized by branched, dark brown, superficial mycelium with phialides and two-celled hyphopodia; superficial, globose to sub globose, dark brown perithecia, 2–4-spored, evanescent asci, and 3–4-septate, dark brown, cylindrical ascospores (Zeng et al. 2017; Hyde et al. 2020b). Hongsanan et al. (2015a) accepted seven genera Amazonia, Appendiculella, Asteridiella, Cryptomeliola, Endomeliola, Irenopsis and Meliola in Meliolaceae. However, Zeng et al. (2020) suggested that Appendiculella is a synonym of Asteridiellabased on phylogeny and morphology. Wijayawardene et al. (2022) accepted eight genera. Herein, we accept six genera and exclude Setameliola due to the lack enough data to establish as a separate genus.

Type species: Meliola Fr., Syst. orb. veg. (Lundae) 1: 111 (1825)
