Chen and Tzean (1993) introduced Megacapitula, with M. villosa as the type species. Prabhugaonkar and Bhat (2011) provided the ITS sequence data for the type species M. villosa derived from a collection in India. To date, no species of this genus have been reported from peat swamp forests. In this study, we report M. villosa on submerged rachides of Eleiodoxa conferta from the peat swamp forest in Narathiwat, Thailand.
Type species: Megacapitula villosa J.L. Chen & Tzean, Mycol. Res. 97(3): 347 (1993).
Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Megacapitula.
