Classification: Nectriaceae, Hypocreales, Hypocreomycetidae, Sordariomycetes, Pezizomycotina, Ascomycota, Fungi.
Associated with bark of woody stems. Sexual morph: Stromata well-developed, composed of pseudoparenchymatous cells. Ascomata perithecial, gregarious, seated on a stroma, globose to pyriform, with a broadly rounded and papillate apical region, offwhite to pale luteous, becoming ochraceous when dry, KOH-, LA-, surface covered with loose, white hyphae, smooth and thin-walled, short setae-like hairs sometimes emerging from perithecial wall. Paraphyses lacking. Asci 8-spored, clavate with a simple apex. Ascospores overlapping irregularly uniseriate to biseriate, fusiform with rounded ends, 3-septate, somewhat constricted at septum, hyaline, becoming pale yellow-brown, smooth-walled to finely striate. Asexual morph: Conidiophores mononematous, septate, irregularly branched, bearing terminal phialides. Conidiogenous cells monophialidic, cylindrical to subcylindrical, periclinal thickening inconspicuous to absent, smooth- and thin-walled. Macroconidia fusoid, 1–7-septate, curved, with a wide, blunt apical cell and a poorly- to well-developed, foot-shaped basal cell, hyaline. Micro- and mesoconidia absent. Chlamydospores absent (adapted from Rossman 1983; Crous et al. 2021).
Known distribution: Jamaica (Rossman 1983; Crous et al. 2021)
Notes: Crous et al. (2021) erected Luteonectria to accommodate Nectria albida and Fusarium nematophilum. However, phylogenetically the genus has a close relationship to Nectriaceae (Crous et al. 2021). Luteonectria formed a clade sister to Longinectria within Nectriaceae in our phylogenetic analysis (Perera RH et al. 2023).
