Classification: Nectriaceae, Hypocreales, Hypocreomycetidae, Sordariomycetes, Pezizomycotina, Ascomycota, Fungi.
Isolated from European cheese. Sexual morph: Undetermined. Asexual morph: Conidiophores are variable-length phialides, sometimes extremely long (153–237 µm), lateral, sometimes verticillate, hyaline. Macroconidia 0–3 septate, straight to slightly curved, apical cell blunt to papillate, basal cell often notched, hyaline. Microconidia ovoid, ellipsoid to allantoid, 0–1 septate, hyaline. Chlamydospores lacking to abundant, globose, single, in pairs or chains, intercalary or terminal (adapted from Savary et al. 2021).
Known distribution: France (Savary et al. 2021).
Notes: Longinectria is a recently recognized genus for two species isolated from Swiss and Italian cheese samples (Savary et al. 2021). Longinectria accommodates two species (Savary et al. 2021). However, this genus was not considered as a valiedly published as it was not indicated that the type culture is preserved in a metabolically inactive state in the original paper.
