The characters of this genus are quite similar to Chaetocapnodium by ascomatial setae surrounding an ostiole. However, they differ in the clustered or solitary ascomata, and characters of basal ascomata. Molecular data is needed to confirm the relationship between Chaetocapnodium and Limaciniaseta. A short SSU sequence data of Limaciniaseta californica that is available in GenBank (2020) is insufficient to include in phylogenetic analyses.
