Classification: Tubeufiaceae, Pleosporales, Dothideomycetes orders incertae sedis, Pezizomycotina, Ascomycota, Fungi.
Lichenotubeufia was introduced by Etayo (2017) to accommodate the type species L. eriodermae, transferred from Tubeufia eriodermatis Etayo, along with four other species, including two new species and two combinations transferred from Tubeufia. This genus is characterized by light-colored, sessile ascomata; interascal filaments or branched-anastomosing filiform pseudoparaphyses, fissitunicate, cylindrical asci with an apical widening and a small ocular chamber; and long, fusiform to acicular, hyaline, multi-septate spores (Etayo 2002a, 2002b, 2017). Subsequently, Flakus et al. (2019b) described Lichenotubeufia cryptica Etayo & Flakus, which grows on Lobariella pallida, while Zhurbenko (2022d) introduced two new species: L. etayoi, found on Trachyderma, and L. tibellii, found on Coccocarpia. The most recent addition is L. calabrica Brackel, introduced by von Brackel et al. (2023a), found on Parmelina.
To date, Lichenotubeufia includes nine recognized species, none of which have available molecular data.
