Classification: Ascomycota genera incertae sedis, Fungi.
Lichenopuccinia was introduced by Hawksworth (1984) to accommodate the sole lichenicolous hyphomycete L. poeltii, found on the thallus of Parmelia sulcata. The genus is characterized by discrete sporodochia with pseudoparenchymatous conidiomata, macronematous, cylindrical conidiophores, and monoblastic, terminal or sympodial, non-proliferating conidiogenous cells. The conidia are singly arising, elongate-clavate, with a truncate base, colorless, 3–5 distoseptate (Atienza et al. 1994). Due to the lack of molecular data, the genus is tentatively placed within Ascomycota genera incertae sedis (Hyde et al. 2024).
Type species: Lichenopuccinia poeltii D. Hawksw. & Hafellner, on Parmelia sulcata (Hawksworth 1984).
Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Lichenopuccinia.
