Classification: Chaetothyriales genera incertae sedis, Chaetothyriomycetidae, Eurotiomycetes, Pezizomycotina, Ascomycota, Fungi

Lichenodiplisiella was introduced by Kondratyuk et al. (2002b) to accommodate the new species L. makarevichae, distinguished from all species of Lichenodiplis by its longer conidia with 1–2(3) septa and distinct conidiomatal structure. It was noted that more than 50% of the examined conidia are 2- or 3-septate, which is characteristic and diagnostic for this genus. In contrast, 1-septate conidia are only found in young conidia of Lichenodiplisiella makarevichae. This genus is characterized by a lichenicolous lifestyle, forming grey-blackish conidiomata on the apothecia of Teloschistes brevior (Nyl.) Vain., which grows alongside Physcia biziana (A. Massal.) Zahlbr., and sometimes aggregating in regular circles. The conidiomata are pycnidial, either aggregated or scattered, initially immersed but becoming erumpent, unilocular, globose or broadly ellipsoid, and greyish-black. The conidiogenous cells are narrowly cylindrical to lageniform, lining the entire pycnidial cavity, percurrently proliferating, discrete, hyaline to pale greyish, and smooth-walled. The conidia are produced holoblastically, narrowly obpyriform to cylindrical, sometimes slightly curved, pale greyish, smooth-walled, 1–2(–3) septate, with septa often wrinkled, an obtuse apex, and a truncate base, measuring 15–18(–21) × (3.0–)3.5–4.5 μm (Kondratyuk et al. 2002b).

Wijayawardene et al. (2020, 2022) placed Lichenodiplisiella within Chaetothyriales genera incertae sedis. The genus lacks of available sequence data, leaving its systematic position unclear. To date, the type species remains the only species within this genus.

Type species: Lichenodiplisiella makarevichiae S.Y. Kondr. & Kudratov, on Teloschistes brevior (Kondratyuk et al. 2002b).

Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Lichenodiplisiella.
