Classification: Cordieritidaceae, Helotiales, Leotiomycetes, Pezizomycotina, Ascomycota, Fungi
Lawreyella was established by Flakus et al. (2019b) to accommodate L. lobariella, originally described as Unguiculariopsis lobariella, which grows on the thallus of Lobaria erosa. Phylogenetic analyses based on SSU-ITS-LSU sequence dataset placed this genus within Cordieritidaceae. The genus is characterized by black, aggregate ascomata with a greenish pigment in the hymeniu and an additional orange-brown pigment in the exciple and epithecium. It possesses short, aseptate, acute excipular hairs. The asci are 8-spored, functionally unitunicate, clavate with a long stalk, and have a slightly thickened apical wall. The ascospores are hyaline, simple, straight to curved, narrowly ellipsoidal with acute ends, and lack of a perispore (Kondratyuk et al. 1995b).
Type species: Lawreyella lobariella (S.Y. Kondr. & D.J. Galloway) Flakus, Etayo, Kukwa & Rodr. Flakus, on Lobaria erosa (Flakus et al. 2019b).
= Unguiculariopsis lobariella S.Y. Kondr. & D.J. Galloway (Kondratyuk et al. 1995b).
Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Lawreyella.
