Classification: Ascomycota genera incertae sedis, Fungi.
Lawalreea was introduced by Diederich (1990) to describe the lichenicolous species L. lecanorae, found on Lecanora persimilis. This genus is characterized by pycnidial conidiomata that are immersed or erumpent, subspherical to ellipsoid, dark, and lack of an ostiole, instead opening irregularly at the apex. The conidiogenous cells are enteroblastic, ampulliform to ellipsoid, hyaline, and smooth-walled. The conidia are simple, hyaline, smooth-walled, falciform, with a rounded apex and a weakly truncated base (Diederich 1990). Lawalreea burgaziana was described by Etayo et al. (2024), occurring on Platismatia glauca, increasing the number of recognized species in the genus to two. Due to the absence of molecular data, Lawalreea remains tentatively placed within Ascomycota genera incertae sedis (Hyde et al. 2024). Further phylogenetic studies are needed to clarify its systematic position.
Type species: Lawalreea lecanorae Diederich.
