NotesLaocoön was described and introduced by David (1997), and typified by L. paradoxus based on its rough-walled, few septate, and helicoid conidia. Laocoön currently comprises a single species, L. paradoxus, found on Calea glomerata in Colombia (Index Fungorum 2024). Laocoön resembles Mycelephas in producing rough-walled helicoid conidia. However, Mycelephas differs from Laocoön in producing V-shaped, and multi-septate conidia, with a truncate base (David 1997; Gams et al. 2009Cantillo-Pérez et al. 2017).

Type species: Laocoön paradoxus (Syd. & P. Syd.) J.C. David, Mycological Papers 172: 116 (1997).

Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Laocoön.
