Classification: Kriegeriaceae, Kriegeriales, Microbotryomycetes, Pucciniomycotina, Basidiomycota, Fungi.

Kriegeriopsis was introduced by Diederich et al. (2022d) to describe K. livingstonensis, which grows on Tetramelas aff. graminicola. The genus is characterized by lichenicolous, gall-inducing blackish basidiomata, the absence of clamps at all septa, and claviform to subcylindrical basidia with three transverse septa. Sporogenous loci form in the upper part of the three lower basidial cells and the lower part of the apical cell. The basidiospores are large, elongate-ellipsoid, aseptate, capable of germination to produce secondary spores, and may eventually become septate, acting as secondary basidia. Phylogenetic analysis by Diederich et al. (2022d) placed this genus within Kriegeriaceae (Kriegeriales, Microbotryomycetes).

Type species: Kriegeriopsis livingstonensis Etayo, Diederich, Millanes & Wedin

Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Kriegeriopsis.

Scale bars: a = 200 μm, b, c = 10 μm.
