Classification: Ascomycota genera incertae sedis, Fungi.
Keissleriomyces was introduced by Hawksworth (1981b) to accommodate the type species K. sandstedeanus, originally described as Stagonospora sandstedeana by Keissler (1925). The genus is characterized by black, singular, immersed, subglobose, unilocular conidiomata with a distinct ostiole. The conidiogenous cells are enteroblastic, subglobose to short-ampulliform, and polyphialidic, capable of producing up to three conidia. The conidia are dry, broadly fusiform, slightly curved at the base, hyaline, 3-septate, and smooth-walled (Hawksworth 1981b). Initially placed within Sphaeropsidales, Keissleriomyces was later tentatively assigned to Ascomycota genera incertae sedis due to the absence of molecular data (Hyde et al. 2024). Further research is needed to clarify its phylogenetic position.
Type species: Keissleriomyces sandstedeanus (Keissl.) D. Hawksw. (Hawksworth 1981b).
= Stagonospora sandstedeana Keissler (Keissler 1925).
Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Keissleriomyces.
