Index Fungorum, Facesoffungi, MycoBank, GenBank.

Classification Ijuhyaceae, Hypocreales, Hypocreomycetidae, Sordariomycetes, Pezizomycotina, Ascomycota, Fungi.

Saprobic on wood in marine habitats. Ascomata perithecial, sometimes stromatic, solitary or occur in small groups, mostly arranged in rows of 2–8, gregarious or frequently confluent, globose, depressed subglobose or subglobose to ellipsoidal, not collapsing when dry, initially immersed, erumpent, apapillate or papillate, faintly clypeate around the ostiolar region, papillae protruding above the substrate, hyaline, orange-yellowish or orange to reddish-orange, ostiolate, KOH+ discoloured. Ostiolar canal lined with periphyses embedded in a gelatinous matrix. Peridium 1, 2 or 3-strata, hyaline or yellow to apricot coloured. Hamathecium composed of septate, branched, filamented apical paraphyses, merging with periphyses, evanescent. Asci 3–8-spored, unitunicate, subcylindrical to clavate or obclavate, short pedicellate, persistent or semi-persistent, thin-walled, apex thick-walled, without an apical ring. Ascospores uni– or bi-seriate, ellipsoidal or clavate to fusiform, 0–1-septate, not or slightly constricted at the septum, with median or submedian septum, hyaline or apricot in colour, thick-walled, smooth-or rough-walled, sometimes longitudinally striate, without or with an evanescent mucilaginous sheath, often oozed out through the ostiolar canal to form a cirrhus. Asexual morph: Undetermined (adapted from Kohlmeyer and Kohlmeyer 1993; Rossman et al. 1999; Abdel-Wahab et al. 2016).

Known distribution: Bermuda, Bahamas, Belize, Mexico, Tobago, USA, India, Malaysia, Seychelles, Thailand, Australia, Brunei, Fiji, French Polynesia (Kohlmeyer and Kohlmeyer 1993), Saudi Arabia (Abdel-Wahab et al. 2016)

Notes: Kohlmeyer and Kohlmeyer (1993) established Kallichroma to accommodate two marine species, which were hitherto described in Hydronectria. Later Abdel-Wahab et al. (2016) introduced another two species to the genus. Species of this genus are found on decayed wood in marine habitats (Kohlmeyer and Kohlmeyer 1993; Abdel-Wahab et al. 2016).

Type species: Kallichroma tethys (Kohlm. & E. Kohlm.) Kohlm. & Volkm.-Kohlm. (1993)

Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Kallichroma.
