Index Fungorum, Faceoffungi, MycoBank, GenBank, Fig 1.

Classification: Ascomycota genera incertae sedis, Fungi.

Kalchbrenneriella was introduced by Diederich (2002) to accommodate the lichenicolous hyphomycete K. cyanescens, originally described as Torula cyanescens Kalchbr., found growing on Usnea thalli. The genus is characterized by semi-macronematous, erect, hyaline, straight, wrinkled conidiophores; monoblastic, terminal, subcylindrical to ellipsoidal, hyaline conidiogenous cells; and acrogenic, aseptate, subcylindrical to ellipsoidal, wrinkled, hyaline conidia arranged in chains (Diederich 2002). Due to the absence of molecular data, Kalchbrenneriella has been tentatively placed within Ascomycota genera incertae sedis (Hyde et al. 2024). Further phylogenetic analysis is needed to confirm its taxonomic placement.

Type species: Kalchbrenneriella cyanescens (Kalchbr.) Diederich & M.S. Christ. (Diederich 2002).

= Torula cyanescens Kalchbr.

Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Kalchbrenneriella.
