Fungalpedia – Note 1557, Kabatia
Kabatia. Bubák.
Index Fungorum, Facesoffungi, MycoBank, GenBank, Fig 1
Classification: Dothioraceae, Dothideales, Dothideomycetidae, Dothideomycetes, Pezizomycotina, Ascomycota, Fungi
Parasitic on host plants in terrestrial habitats. Sexual morph is undetermined. The asexual morph is charactrised by subcuticular conidiomata, which are dark brown, occur singly, and unilocular. The upper wall of conidiomata is composed of thick-walled and dark brown hyphae, which are converging toward the center of the conidiomata. The ostiole is absent and dehiscence by radial ruptures from the center to the periphery. Conidiophores are short, cylindrical and formed from the inner layer of the base and sides of the conidiomata wall. The conidiogenous cells are hyaline, doliiform to cylindrical, determinate, discrete, smooth and formed from to the basal wall. Conidia are hyaline, fusiform, clavate, falcate or cylindrical, rarely guttulate, base truncate, apex tapered, with 0–2-septate near the apices, smooth-walled (Sutton 1980, Li et al. 2020).
Notes: Kabatia was revised by Conners (1959) and Sutton (1980) and K. latemarensis accepted as the type species by Bubák and Kabát (1904). Kabatia can cause leaf lesions of plants (Rakhimova et al. 2017). Krug (1977) gave a brief review of this genus and added a combination (K. valpellinensis = Marsonia valpellinensis). Guignardia and Discosphaerina are treated as the sexual morph of Kabatia by Reusser (1964) and Sivanesan (1984). However, there is no convincing evidence for these aspects. Currently, there are 10 species listed in Kabatia in MycoBank (September 2023). Nevertheless, there are no sequence data available in GenBank (September 2023). Molecular studies are necessary to determine the classification status of this genus and link its correct sexual morph. The updated taxonomic treatment of this genus is genera incertae sedis, Dothideomycetes (Wijayawardene et al. 2022).
