Classification: Stictidaceae, Ostropales, Ostropomycetidae, Lecanoromycetes, Pezizomycotina, Ascomycota, Fungi
Ingvariella was originally segregated from Diploschistes and placed within Thelotremataceae (Ostropales) by Guderley et al. (1997) to accommodate the type species I. bispora, originally described as Urceolaria bispora and later transferred to Diploschistes bisporus (Bagl.) Steriner. This species differs from other Diploschistes species in its lecideine apothecia, a pseudoexciple that formed from parts of the hymenium, and its degenerating, pigmented hymenial elements. Additionally, a new variety, multispora, featuring four spores per ascus, was also described (Guderley et al. 1997).
Fernández-Brime et al. (2011) conducted a phylogenetic analysis based on mtSSU and LSU and revealed that this genus is a member of Stictidaceae, sister to Cryptodiscus. Hyde et al. (2024) accepted this placement and placed this genus within Stictidaceae (Ostropales).
Type species: Ingvariella bispora (Bagl.) Guderley & Lumbsch (Guderley et al. 1997)
= Urceolaria bispora Bagl. (Baglietto 1871)
= Diploschistes bisporus (Bagl.) J. Steiner
Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Ingvariella.
