Classification: Hypocreales genera incertae sedis, Hypocreomycetidae, Sordariomycetes, Pezizomycotina, Ascomycota, Fungi.
Illosporiopsis was introduced by Sikaroodi et al. (2001) based on a phylogenetic analysis using SSU, ITS, and mtSSU sequences to accommodate the type species I. christiansenii, which was transferred from Hobsonia christiansenii B.L. Brady & D. Hawksw., found on the thalli of Candelariella and Physcia. This lichenicolous genus is characterized by sporodochial, vividly pink, erumpent colonies; micronematous conidiophores; monoblastic, integrated conidiogenous cells; and solitary, hyaline, coiled, twisted, helically septate, smooth conidia. In the phylogenetic analysis by Sikaroodi et al. (2001), I. christiansenii clusters within the Hypocrealean clade, alongside Illosporium and a species of Fusarium. Consequently, Illosporiopsis was tentatively placed within Hypocreales as genera incertae sedis, pending further phylogenetic studies.
Type species: Illosporiopsis christiansenii (B.L. Brady & D. Hawksw.) D. Hawksw., on Candelariella and Physcia (Sikaroodi et al. 2001).
Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Illosporiopsis.
= Hobsonia christiansenii B.L. Brady & D. Hawksw. (Lowen et al. 1986).
