Hypotrachynicola Etayo.

Classification: Ascomycota genera incertae sedis, Fungi.

Hypotrachynicola was introduced by Etayo (2002b) to accommodate the parasitic fungus H. rubra, found on the foliose lichen Hypotrachyna. The genus is characterized by black, subglobose, aggregated, and immersed perithecioid ascomata with a brown, papillate ostiole. The perithecium wall exhibits an epidermoid texture, and periphyses are simple. The asci are unitunicate, clavate, thin-walled, and contain 16 hyaline, unseptate, ellipsoid spores (Etayo 2002b). In the absence of molecular data, Hypotrachynicola has been tentatively placed within Ascomycota genera incertae sedis, pending further phylogenetic analysis (Hyde et al. 2024).

Type species: Hypotrachynicola rubra Etayo, on Hypotrachyna sp. (Etayo 2002b).

Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Hypotrachynicola.
