Notes: The order Hypocreales includes ten families Bionectriaceae, Clavicipitaceae, Cordycipitaceae, Flammocladiaceae, Hypocreaceae, Nectriaceae, Niessliaceae, Ophiocordycipitaceae, Stachybotryaceae and Tilachlidiaceae, which are distributed in subtropical and tropical regions (Maharachchikumbura et al. 2015). These families differ amongst each other according to their fleshy and colorful perithecial ascomata, typically ostiolate perithecia, very varied ascospores and pigment production (Rehner and Samuels 1995).

 

Type species: Hypocreaceae De Not. [as ‘Hypocreacei‘], G. bot. ital. 2(1): 48 (1845) [1844].
