Fungalpedia – Note 2878, Hymenobia

Hymenobia Nyl.

Citation when using this data: Meng QF et al. – Fungalpedia.

Index Fungorum, Faceoffungi, MycoBank, GenBank.

Classification: Ascomycota genera incertae sedis, Fungi.

Hymenobia was first referenced by Nylander (1854) for a small parasitic fungus inhabiting the hymenium of Lecidea jurana, though no description or illustration was provided. Later, Triebel (1989) designated Hymenobia insidiosa Nyl. as the type species of the genus. Roux et al. (1991) discussed its systematic position and elaborated on its characteristics, including very thin-walled or absent perithecioid ascocarps with a dispersed hymenium within the host (Lecidea), branched paraphyses, unitunicate asci, and hyaline, thin-walled spores with 1–2 septa. The genus is tentatively placed within Ascomycota genera incertae sedis pending the availability of molecular data (Hyde et al. 2024).

Type species: Hymenobia insidiosa Nyl. (Nylander 1854, Triebel 1989, Roux et al. 1991).

Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Hymenobia.
