Hydnodontaceae was proposed by Jülich (1981) and includes a variety of fruitbody shapes: coralloid, hydnoid, stipitate and resupinate. Currently accepted genera in the family are: Brevicellicium, Dextrinocystis, Dextrinodontia, Hydnodon (Type), Litschauerella, Luellia, Porpomyces, Scytinopogon, Sistotremastrum, Sphaerobasidium, Subulicystidium, Trechispora and Tubulicium (He et al. 2019).
Type genus: Hydnodon Banker, Mycologia 5(6): 297 (1913).
