Index Fungorum, Faceoffungi, MycoBankGenBank, Fig 1.

Classification: TubeufiaceaeTubeufiales, Incertae sedis, DothideomycetesPezizomycotinaAscomycota, Fungi.

Etymology: “Hyalohelisphora” refers to hyaline conidiophores and helicoid conidia of this fungus.

Saprobic on decaying wood in a terrestrial habitat. Sexual morph Undetermined. Asexual morph Hyphomycetous, helicosporous. Colonies on natural substrate superficial, effuse, gregarious, with masses of crowded, glistening conidia, white. Mycelium partly immersed, partly superficial, composed of hyaline to pale brown, branched, septate, smooth hyphae. Conidiophores macronematous, mononematous, erect, irregular cylindrical, short, flexuous, branched, septate, hyaline, smooth-walled, thick-walled. Conidiogenous cells holoblastic, monoblastic, integrated, terminal or intercalary, subcylindrical or irregular, denticulate, hyaline, smooth-walled. Conidia solitary, acropleurogenous, helicoid, tapering towards the ends, developing on tooth-like protrusion, not becoming loose in water, multi-septate, guttulate, hyaline, smooth-walled.

Notes: Hyalohelisphora is morphologically similar but phylogenetically distinct from the asexual morph of Helicosporium (Fig. 4; Ma J et al. 2024) (Lu et al. 2017a2018bMa et al. 2023c). Hyalohelisphora can be delineated from other helicosporous genera by its hyaline, small conidial morphology, and distinctly hyaline, short conidiophores (Lu et al. 2017a2018bMa et al. 2023c). Therefore, we introduce Hyalohelisphora as a novel monotypic genus to accommodate H. lignicola as the type species.

Type species: Hyalohelisphora lignicola J. Ma, K.D. Hyde & Y.Z. Lu, sp. nov.

Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Hyalohelisphora.
