Classification: Incertae sedis, Lulworthiales, Lulworthiomycetidae, Sordariomycetes, Pezizomycotina, Ascomycota, Fungi.
Notes: Hiogispora was established by Abdel-Wahab et al. (2010), with H. japonica as the type species based on morphology and phylogenetic analyses of the combined LSU and SSU sequence data. Currently, Hiogispora comprises a single species, H. japonica (formerly known as Cirrenalia japonica), which was found from Abies homolepis in Japan (Abdel-Wahab et al. 2010). Hiogispora is characterized by fasciculate, simple or branched, pale-brown, and septate conidiophores that are often inflated, monoblastic, integrated, terminal, determinate conidiogenous cells that are frequently inflated, and acrogenous, solitary, dry, helicoid, reddish brown, dictyoseptate conidia (Abdel-Wahab et al. 2010). Furthermore, Hiogispora can be distinguished from other helicoid genera by having dictyoseptate conidia and conidiophores with inflated cells in a stroma (Abdel-Wahab et al. 2010).
Type species: Hiogispora japonica (Sugiy.) Abdel-Wahab & Nagah., Mycological Progress 9 (4): 557 (2010).
Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Hiogispora.
