Notes: Helicoubisia was erected by Lunghini and Rambelli (1979), with H. coronata as the type species based on its unique conidiogenous cells. Helicoubisia comprises two species: H. coronate and H. monocephala, found on dead twigs or rotten petiole of Arecaceae from both freshwater and terrestrial habitats in Africa, Malaysia and Peru (Lunghini and Rambelli 1979; Kuthubutheen and Nawawi 1994). Helicoubisia is characterized by macronematous, mononematous, solitary, erect, straight or slightly curved, smooth, septate, thick-walled conidiophores that terminate into a conidiogenous cell, attenuating gradually and paler towards the apex, holoblastic, polyblastic, discrete, determinate, denticulate, pale brown conidiogenous cells that consist of up to 6 sporogenous conidiogenous loci, and helicoid, tightly coiled, multi-septate, brown to dark brown, smooth conidia that are rounded at apex, and pedunculate at the basal cell (Lunghini and Rambelli 1979; Kuthubutheen and Nawawi 1994). Helicoubisia differs from other helicosporous genera taxa due to its aggregations resembling bladder-like protrusions at the top of the conidiophores (Linder 1929; Zhao et al. 2007; Lu et al. 2018b).
Type species: Helicoubisia coronata Lunghini & Rambelli, Micologia Italiana 8: 21 (1979).
Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Helicoubisia.
