Classification: Hyaloriaceae, Auriculariales, Auriculariomycetidae, Agaricomycetes, Agaricomycotina, Basidiomycota, Fungi.

Notes: Helicomyxa was established by Kirschner and Chen (2004), with H. everhartioides as the type species based on morphology and the phylogenetic analyses of LSU sequence data. Currently, the sporodochial hyphomycete Helicomyxa comprises only one species, H. everhartioides, which was found on dead wood in a terrestrial habitat in the Taiwan Province of China (Kirschner and Chen 2004). Helicomyxa is characterized by having clamped conidiophores, hemi-circinate, hyaline, and aseptate conidia (Kirschner and Chen 2004). Helicomyxa is similar to species of Delortia and Everhartia, differs by the presence of clamp conidiophores (Linder 1929; Goh and Hyde 1997; Yanna et al. 2000). Furthermore, only Everhartia phoenicis produces aseptate conidia (Yanna et al. 2000). It is to be noted that H. everhartioides can only be cultivated in pure cultures in the presence of a species of Phaeoacremonium. (Kirschner and Chen 2004).

Type species: Helicomyxa everhartioides R. Kirschner & Chee J. Chen, Studies in Mycology 50 (2): 339 (2004).

Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Helicomyxa.
