Epiphytic on living leaves appearing as black dots. Superficial hyphae hyaline and indistinct. Sexual morph: Thyriothecia superficial, solitary to gregarious, scattered, black, flattened, orbicular, dimidiate with a central ostiole. Upper wall blackish green, membranous, comprising overlapping, compact, pseudoparenchymatous hyphae with textura epidermoidea, lacking of basal layer. Hamathecium lacking pseudoparaphyses. Asci 8-spored, bitunicate, clavate to ovoid, short pedicellate. Ascospores overlapping, 2-seriate, hyaline, cylindrical, 5–6-septate, constricted at septa, head cell longer than others, tapering at bottom. Asexual morph: Undetermined (Zeng et al. 2019).

Notes: Batista et al. (1963b) established Haplopeltheca in Micropeltidaceae using its typical characters of blackish green upper wall and ascospores with transverse septa. However, it differs from other genera in Micropeltidaceae in having 5–6-septate ascospores and lacking pseudoaraphyses (Zeng et al. 2019).

Type species: Haplopeltheca hyleensis Bat., J.L. Bezerra & Cavalc., Publicac¸o˜es. Instituto de Micologia da Universidade do Recife & Instituto Nacional de Pesquis 388: 7 (1963).
