Classification: NectriaceaeHypocrealesHypocreomycetidaeSordariomycetesPezizomycotinaAscomycota, Fungi.

Saprobic, associated with soil, soil plant matter, woody substrates including seed pods, slime flux of trees, occasionally fungicolous on stromata of other fungi, isolated from flowing water. Sexual morph: Ascomata 100–200 μm high, perithecial, fully or partially immersed in stroma, scattered to gregarious, or arrange in small groups, globose to pyriform, papilla short acute or disk-like, surface smooth, yellow, pale buff to orange, KOH-. Ostioles periphysate. Stromata erumpent, slimy, pale orange, composed of sheet of hyphae over the substrate. Paraphyses lacking. Asci 8-spored, unitunicate, cylindrical to narrowly clavate, with an apical ring, J-. Ascospores uniseriate, 1-septate, hyaline to pale brown, smooth or becoming slightly verrucose. Asexual morph: Conidiomata fusarium-like. Conidiophores initially occurring as lateral phialides on somatic hyphae, sometimes monochasial, verticillate or penicillate, hyaline. Conidiogenous cells phialidic, monophialidic, cylindrical to subulate, hyaline. Microconidia lacking or very rare, ellipsoidal to allantoid, aseptate, hyaline, form two types of conidia. Macroconidia falcate, mostly 1–3-septate or 3–5-septate or sometimes up to 10- septate, straight to curved, tapering towards the ends, hyaline, apical cell often hooked with a pointed tip, basal cell slightly pedicellate. Chlamydospores absent or present, globose, occur singly, arrange in pairs or chains, sometimes in macroconidia (adapted Gräfenhan et al. 2011 and Lombard et al. 2015).

Known distribution: Worldwide (Gräfenhan et al. 2011Jones et al. 2020Dayarathne et al. 2020Perera et al. 2020)

NotesFusicolla was treated as a synonym of Fusarium (Wollenweber 1916). Gräfenhan et al. (2011) reinstated the genus designating a lectotype for the type species Fusicolla betae. Fusicolla can be distinguished from Fusarium from their yellow to orange, perithecia, while dark blue to black perithecia are produced in Fusarium (Crous et al. 2021).

Type species: Fusicolla betae Bonord., Handb. Allgem. mykol. (Stuttgart): 150 (1851).

Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Fusicolla.
