Fungalpedia – Note 2925, Fusariella

Fusariella Sacc., Atti Inst. Veneto Sci. lett., ed Arti, Sér. 6 2: 463 (1884).

Citation when using this data: Perera RH et al. 2023 – Fungalpedia.

Index Fungorum, Facesoffungi, MycoBank, GenBank, Fig 1.

Classification Bionectriaceae, Hypocreales, Hypocreomycetidae, Sordariomycetes, Pezizomycotina, Ascomycota, Dikarya,  Fungi.

Saprobic on plant material, also isolated from soil, plant pathogenic. Sexual morph: Undetermined. Asexual morph: Conidiophores semi-macronematous, mononematous, unbranched or variously branched. Conidiogenous cells phialidic, cylindrical, subulate or lageniform, curved, hyaline to pale brown. Conidia catenate, acrogenous, fusiform, cylindrical, clavate or obclavate, clavate to cylindrical, 1–3-septate, straight or slightly curved, hyaline, subhyaline to olivaceous, grey or brown, mostly smooth-walled, sometimes verruculose (adapted from Lin et al. 2017).

Known distribution: Algeria, Egypt (Mouchacca and Nicot 1972), China (Liu and Zhang 2006; Pollack 1947; Jiang et al. 2017), France (Ellis 1976), India (Sydow and Mitter 1933; Roy and Rai 1968), Israel (Chabelska-Frydman 1964), Mongolia (Wu et al. 2009), Peru (Matsushima 1993), Taiwan (Matsushima 1985), Tanzania (Hennings 1904a), Thailand (Lin et al. 2017), UK (Saccardo 1884), Ukraine (Garbowski 1918), USA (Ellis and Bartholomew 1896).

Notes: Fusariella was established by Saccardo (1884) to accommodate F. atrovirens. The natural classification of Fusariella was uncertain for decades due to lack of molecular data until a comprehensive taxonomic study was carried out by Lin et al. (2017). Lin et al. (2017) showed that the genus belongs in Bionectriaceae with respect to morphology and results of combined gene analysis.

Type species: Fusariella atrovirens (Berk.) Sacc., Fung. 2: 463 (1884).

Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Fusariella.
