Classification: Ascomycota genera incertae sedis, Fungi.
Everniicola was introduced by Hawksworth (1982d) to describe the lichenicolous coelomycete E. flexispora, which grows on Evernia prunastri. This genus is characterized by uniloculate, scattered, subglobose to cupuliform, immersed brown conidiomata with an ostiole. The conidiogenous cells are enteroblastic, acrogenous, subglobose or short ampulliform, phialidic, non-proliferating, and hyaline. The conidia are subcylindrical, often L-shaped, hyaline, 0–2-septate, and smooth. Originally placed in Sphaeropsidales by Hawksworth (1982d), Everniicola is now considered in Ascomycota genus incertae sedis due to insufficient molecular data, leaving its phylogenetic status uncertain (Hyde et al. 2024).
Type species: Everniicola flexispora D. Hawksw., on Evernia prunastri (Hawksworth 1982d).
Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Everniicola.
