Notes – Petch (1908) emended the genus, and considered that Ethwaitesii and E. psilostoma were identical. Okada & Tubaki (1984) described E. melanoxanthus var. grossus and E. melanoxanthus var. melanoxanthus. The genus is characterized by funnel-shaped synnemata or sporodochia, branched conidiophores and dark brown conidia with a germ slit (Seifert et al. 2011). 

Type species: Endocalyx thwaitesii Berk. & Broome, J. Linn. Soc., Bot. 15(1): 84 (1876) [1877]
