Saprobic on the host plant in terrestrial habitatSexual morph: undetermined. Asexual morph: Conidiomata brown, acervular, solitary, immersed to erumpent, globose to subglobose, unilocular, glabrous. Ostiole absent, dehiscence by irregular splits of apical wall. Conidiomatal wall composed of thin-walled, pale brown to hyaline cells of textura angularis. Conidiophores arising from inner cells of basal stroma, hyaline, cylindrical to subcylindrical, branched at the base and above, septate, smooth-walled. Conidiogenous cells hyaline, holoblastic, sympodial, subcylindrical, integrated or discrete, indeterminate, smooth-walled, with 1–2 conidia formed sympodially from broad, flat, unthickened, scarcely protuberant scars. Conidia hyaline, clavate, with an obtuse apex and a truncate base, 1–2-septate, smooth-walled (adapted from Sutton 1980).

Notes: Diplosporonema delastrei is associated with host plants, such as Agrostemma githago, Silene spp., Melandrium sp. and Caryophyllaceae (Sutton 1980). The genus is monotypic, and there is no molecular data available.
